we’re playing at zenzi in bandra this friday night (11th march), with some new and old dancing tracks we’ve dug up. the fun starts at 10:30pm, potentially with this storming bit of afro-funk-disco from south african master hugh masakela. see you on the dancefloor.
thanks to estefania for the tip off.
after a quick afterparty set at the mahindra blues festival on saturday night (thanks to those who raved), we’re back for a club gig this friday (11th feb) at zenzi in bandra. more details soon, but it’s a night inspired by berlin and that means tracks like this.
no, neither jamie jones nor rob mello is from berlin, but their sound undeniably owes something to the german capital (as well as the genius of crosstown rebels main man damian lazarus). oh, and also for the nerds, we’re using a new and very special technical setup – two traktor S4s.
we’ve finally got round to putting together some of our favourite dancefloor bangers into a mix you can play in one go. in the car. while washing the dishes. or if you really can’t wake up in the morning. enjoy:
jackson five – dancing machine (henrik schwarz remix)
sneaky soundsystem – when we were young (breakbot remix)
gorillaz – stylo (alex metric remix)
bagraiders – snake charmer
nicolas jaar – stay in love
samantha fu – theme from discotheque (mixhell edit)
fake blood – i think i like it
joe and will ask – man the cannons
duck sauce – barbara streisand (fare soldi remix)
pharrell feat. uffie – add SUV (armand van helden remix)
major lazer – pon de floor
christopher & raphael – popper (shinichi osawa version)
the black ghosts – any way you choose to give it (boy 8 bit remix)
the idiots in the club by weareallidiots
mondays aren’t always made for morose music. every now and then a track comes along that makes us beam from ear to ear, and this is one of them.
taking a song by Munk (signed to the superb german label Gomma), rio de janeiro’s The Twelves (also known for some great reworks of everyone from Fever Ray to Black Kids) have turned a moody house track into a funky number born to be played at sunset. on a rooftop. or on a beach. see you in a happy place.
As winter draws close and darkness envelops us, Simian Mobile Disco follow the mood with a seductively foreboding riff extended over 8 minutes. We love it. Aspic:
RD has written a piece for GQ India on what it’s really like to be a dj. we know a lot of you think it’s great fun, but it really isn’t. ok, so it is sometimes. like when you get to play tracks like this:
this song provokes intense happiness whenever we hear it. duck sauce (an unholy alliance of armand van helden and a-trak), take on the legendary perm of babs streisand, and get filtered through the already praised fare soldi.
Barbra Streisand- Duck Sauce (Fare Soldi – Duck Soldi rmx) by FARE SOLDI
Thank you to all the dark devils of disco that showed up at HORROR SHOW on saturday night. It was epic, glorious and horrifically good.
You made it a hit, which is why we’re giving you this little, but gorgeous, present:
You Wanted A Hit – LCD Soundsystem (Dave Dresden Remix)
the excellent culture and news site Mumbai Boss has featured the idiots today in a very complimentary profile. thanks guys.
time for a real dancefloor banger.
bombay is definitely in the mood to party on saturday, if the response to our invite is anything to go by. get yourself on the guest list by replying to the facebook event – if the place fills up we’ll give priority to people whose names are down.
now for some scary musical fun, starting with a rare cameo from michael and jermaine jackson in this eighties standard:
and there are few things scarier than the prospect of trying to read thomas pynchon’s novel gravity’s rainbow. try instead a typically anarchic soulwax remix of the klaxons song named after pynchon’s weighty tome. a classic from the heady mid-noughties days in london, it morphs into a synth freakout around the 3 minute mark.
